Describe why you chose to become an NP.

I chose to become a Nurse Practitioner because I truly enjoy helping people and making a positive impact in their lives. I have worked my way up from a nurse’s aide, registered nurse, to an advance practice registered nurse. It is my role to help encourage individuals to make healthy lifestyle choices to promote their overall health and well being.

Describe a situation in which you made a meaningful difference in the lives of one of your patients.

There are countless situations in which I have made a meaningful difference impacting my patients. In primary care more and more patients face a form of cancer. Providing individualized care and respecting one’s wishes has made a significant influence to the patient, as well as their loved ones during this difficult time.

What do you think is the best part of being a Nurse Practitioner?

I feel that the best part of being a Nurse Practitioner is being able to choose your specialty. I enjoy being an internal medicine provider where we are the forefront of medicine.

Describe your greatest practice challenge in the current healthcare environment.

The greatest practice challenge in the healthcare environment is keeping up to date with evidence based research findings and continuous changes in treatment recommendations.

What is the best advice you have been given or would give to a student entering the profession?

Don’t give up no matter how overwhelming it may feel at times. Follow your dreams.
