As you recall, our legislation to follow the recommendations of the Institute of Medicine and the Federal Trade Commission to remove antiquated barriers to practice for NPs and CRNAs in Massachusetts was heard before the Joint Committee on Public Health on November 19, 2013.

As a result of your efforts, our bill has been granted an "extension order" and remains before the Joint Committee on Public Health for continued deliberation.

MCNP is thankful to each member who hasresponded toour e-mail alerts, sent e-mails to legislators, attended events at the State House andshared information about the bill with others.

While our bill is still "alive," every attempt to defeat it remains inplay. There have been a number or arguments against the bill from various opposition groups. These falseclaims include that:
"  NPs and CRNAs are not educated enough."
"  If the bill passes, they will not work as team members."
"  Patients will be harmed because they don't know what they don't know."
"  They need continued oversight in order to be safe for patients."
      and more....
Your team of leaders, lobbyists, and legislators is committed to working very hard to pass this bill this legislative session, which means by July 31, 2014.
The question is....are you?
MCNP will only ask you to act when it is timely. MCNP will give you all the information you need and will serve as a resource for you. But know that only you can build relationships with the legislators who will vote for or against this bill!

Every one of you counts....and every one of you is needed.

So there is much work to be done, and we ask you to walk this journey with us and remain committed to our cause. If we are able to pass H. 2009/S. 1079, An Act Improving Health Care Quality and Reducing Costs, your patients will benefit as will you. Don't leave thisfor someone else to do....we need a huge groundswell of many voices.....
