We Have Won the First Battle!

Late last evening, the Massachusetts Senate adopted Amendment # 935! We are awaiting the final language of the re-drafted version, and while there have been some revisions, the key points remain intact. We will sharemore details asthey becomeavailable and will explain what this will mean to your practice.

From here, the amendment will go before a Conference Committee as part of the Budget process. The Committee is comprised of 3 Senators and 3 Representatives who will review the amendment. They have until June 30 th to release it - either with or without changes. If released, it will go to the Governor's desk and need his signature to become law. If stalled by opposition and not released, it will DIE in this committee.

So as excited as we are about this landmark victory, there is still MUCH work that needs to be done, and the next 5 weeks are critical. Our opposition will have time to re-group and will be actively lobbying the legislators to remove this language or make changes that will be detrimental.

Your grassroots efforts over these past months have been incredible and are the reason we have gotten this far. Just since Senator Moore's amendment was filed last week, more than 1000 emails were generated to the Senate - including almost 200 from your friends and family!

We will continue to send action alerts and ask that you remain engaged. Please respond to these alerts and start your own grassroots circles with your APN colleagues, friends and families.

We have much to be proud of and many many people to thank including Senate President Therese Murray, Senator Richard Moore, Representative Kay Khan, our amazing lobbyists Gloria Craven and Stacey Ober, and an incredibly dedicated MCNP leadership team including Stephanie Ahmed, Peg Ackerman, and Julianne Nemes-Walsh among countless others. The collaboration with the Massachusetts Association of Nurse Anesthetists was also critically helpful.

So take a few moments to reflect on what we were able to accomplish, how we did what no one thought we would be able to do, and get ready for the next part of this journey.

Help us make it all the way to the Governor's desk!
