MCNP/MANA Legislation HB 1996/SB 1207, An Act to Remove Restrictions on the Licenses of NPs and CRNAs as Recommended by the Institute of Medicine and the Federal Trade Commission  remains before the Joint Committee on Public Health (JCPH).

Along with many other health care bills, it has been scheduled for a public hearing before the JCPHon Tuesday, November 17, 2015.

On this date, MCNP and MANA legislative leadership and other stakeholders will be presenting testimony in support of the bill. Our opponents will be doing the same, so we encourage all members who are able to Save the Date and plan to come and support us. More details about the day will be released when they become available.

In addition to preparing testimony for our hearing, MCNP leaders and lobbyists have been very active in garnering support for our bill from the larger nursing and medical communities and strengthening relationships with key legislators who are in positions of influence.

To help promote member engagement, which will be crucial in the coming months, the MCNP and MANA have also been holding joint Legislative "Meet and Greet" events in the regions.

These events are designed to provide a relaxed setting in which our members can meet their legislators and educate them about our profession and what we do for our patients. By helping our legislators understand what we do as and for their constituents, they will be more invested in supporting our legislation.

Programs have already been held in the Berkshires, SE Mass, and Worcester, and events have been scheduled in the Pioneer Valley on 9/17 and in Amesbury for the Merrimack Valley region on 10/1/15. Planning is underway for a North Shore/Greater Boston program later this Fall. Please visit the MCNP website for more details about these programs.

Our legislation will be at several critical junctures as it advances in the legislative process. This is when your advocacy will be required. We will let you know when your action is needed and ask that you respond to our email action alerts when you receive them.

In the meantime, we encourage you to identify your legislators, familiarize yourself with HB 1996/SB 1207, and think about what your APN practice could be like without restrictive licensing requirements.

If you would like to get more involved with the MCNP Legislative Committee and our grassroots efforts, please feel free to Contact Us.

Thank you for continued support of our legislative efforts. We are energized, strategically positioned, and committed to getting this important APN legislation passed this session!
