Important Information for Practitioners in Massachusetts:
In March 2018, the PATCH (Protecting Access to Confidential Healthcare) Act was signed into law by Governor Baker.
This law fixes a crucial barrier to accessing health care by ensuring that when multiple people are on the same insurance plan, confidential health care information is not shared with anyone other than the patient.
The law allows patients accessing a wide range of "sensitive services" to request the explanation of benefits summary (EOB) be redirected to them instead of the subscriber of the insurance plan, thus preventing inadvertent disclosure of private health information.
To help facilitate awareness of this new law, the PATCH Alliance recently finalized a number of educational resources for patients and providers that are now accessible on the Health Care for All website.
